I do not want to run today

by on Dec.31, 2011, under Training Runs

Legs were tired this morning.  Really wanted to just sleep.  Drug myself out of bed to meet the group.  Got into a groove and felt like we were going kind of slow.   A mile and a half into the run I’m thinking I wish I could just turn around.  I was enjoying the run but had an “I’d rather be walking” feeling.  Made the turn at the half way point and was feeling good.  Ended the run strong with a “come on Houston” attitude.  I need a 7:38 pace half marathon to get under 1:40.  I don’t know how but I am going to try.  Kind of surprised that our pace was an 8:13 pace.  I’ll take that.  Now off to work in the yard and play a little tennis, for the first time in a year and a half!

Good running week

by on Dec.30, 2011, under Training Runs

I’ve gotten 4 quality runs in this week.  I’ve really enjoyed my running friends this week.  Two days in a row I absolutely did NOT want to get out of bed and run and would not have run along but ended up with a great tempo run and a nice 9 mile mystery run today as a result.

Yesterday’s tempo run was a real encouragement for Houston.  I need a 7:38 average pace to get under 1:40, something I’m not sure I can do but am going to go for it.  Secondary goal is every mile under 8 minute pace.  Here is the Garmin report that shows a warm up, tempo, Bainbridge Hill and a nice finish.

We did a Friday mystery run where we didn’t know where we were going or how far or how fast.  Left out of the fitness center, up to the golf course, ran the cart paths for awhile, out back onto the roads and finished with 9.2 miles.  I didn’t have my Garmin but pace was average and fun.  I’ll run easy and then do 15 on Sunday as my last long run before the Houston half (in two weeks).  That will give me 52 miles for the week which is nice.  Great way to finish out 2011.

Couple of good runs

by on Dec.27, 2011, under Training Runs

I’ve been running off and on but not blogging much. Had a nice run yesterday and another today. Today Tim and I made up a route that included some track work in the middle – a couple laps, a quick lap and a cool down lap and then headed back out for some more street work. Less than 3 weeks to the Houston Half Marathon where my goal will be to run every mile under 8 minute/mile pace. I’d like to get below 1:40 but don’t feel I have it at this point. However, it is a flat course, should be cool and I’ll have been inspired by the best of the best in the Olympic Time Trials.
