Building the Aerobic machine

by on May.09, 2012, under Training Runs

Chicago training has officially begun with my new training approach – build a strong aerobic base by increasing my mileage and running below my anaerobic threshold.  Through June I’m going to try to run every day at least an hour or 7 miles.  8-10 mile runs on Tuesday and Thursday and a long run every weekend, starting around 12 and working my way up to 20 each weekend.  8-10 50+ mile weeks to get a good base under me.  I may do some racing but not more than one day of speed/tempo each week, if any.  Goal it to run long and run easy and watch the pace increase without an increase in effort.  The other reason to do this is to avoid injury.  Although I’ve run 2 marathons this year, I haven’t really trained a lot.  I realized this as I looked back at my training logs.  No wonder my times were slow.  They were good races and glad I could run them with so little training.

All this is changing now.  The “A” marathon for the year is coming.  Injuries are fading, base is building, temps are heating up.  Come on Chicago.  Here is the week so far.
