Sunday 5 mile run

by petetanguay on Jun.28, 2009, under Training Runs

Good to get back out in the heat and run.  Felt real good for the first couple of miles and then slowed a bit.  Nothing in particular, just a combination of heat and everything else keeping me at a slower pace.  Nice to run though and good to get out and sweat in the heat.

Fathers Day Run

by petetanguay on Jun.21, 2009, under Training Runs

Had a good 10 mile run this morning, broken into two 5 mile runs.  Temps were close to 90 and it was hot.  Felt a little lightheaded after the run.  I would like to be running longer runs but this was what I had for today.  The guy I ran with at 4:45 met up with a group at 5:30 and ran another 11.  That group is too fast for me to run with when I’ve already run (and often when I haven’t!).  Great friendships and a great way to start the day.

Slow return to sub-8 tempo

by petetanguay on Jun.18, 2009, under Training Runs

Had a good tempo run today and feel my legs slowly coming back.  Can’t say I felt strong but I didn’t feel fatigued.  I ran hard to the end of the tempo (3 miles) and was able to run under an 8 minute mile.  This is huge progress.  Still in the base build phase of marathon training so I am happy with it.  Thought about my friend, Michael Cook, who is riding in the Race Across America.  If he can ride 300 miles/day I can run a hard tempo run.  He left Oceanside yesterday and when i do my tempo run next Thursday he will have been on his bike constantly with very few stops for sleep.  Nice morning for a run – not too hot and them humidity didn’t seem as bad.  Beautiful sunny morning and a great run.

Made it 8

by petetanguay on Jun.16, 2009, under Training Runs

Running is a real chore lately.  Trying to find my pace and comfort zone but it is tough.  The body just doesn’t want to go fast.  I think it is harder to run slower because you have more pounding and it takes longer (obviously).  The running group was doing speed work in a neighborhood (track is closed for repair) and I didn’t want to do this so I set out on an 8 mile run with a few hills in it.  The humidity is real high in the mornings now (90+ %) and the temps are in the 70’s.  I stopped and walked 3-4 times and just got through the run.  I’m just listening to my body, running what I can and looking forward to when it comes back to where it was so we can explore some new ground.  Overall, a great way to start the day.

Hot and Muggy Monday Run

by petetanguay on Jun.15, 2009, under Training Runs

Summer is coming fast.  Ran 8 this morning at 5am with a starting temp of 70+ and finishing nearing 80 degrees.  Weather.com says it is 95% humidity and I believe it!  As has been the case for me recently, I ran slow but steady.  The difference today is that I didn’t have any pain or injuries to worry about as I ran.  My pace was due to fatigue and the heat.  I feel my body slowly coming back and am learning to settle in and do what it is able to do.  In spite of the heat, it was a beautiful morning to be up and running.

Saturday “breakfast run”

by petetanguay on Jun.13, 2009, under Training Runs

Saturdays are a nice easy five mile run and then we head to Stoby’s for breakfast.  It’s a nice tradition.  My neighbor joined us for the first time and I stayed back with him but he ran well.  Had a good steady run, felt good and am starting to get excited to run more again.  I think running fewer times each week and doing some cross training is paying off by helping me to build some strength and rest my feet / legs.  Plan to run at least 10 in the morning.  Nice running weather, a little humid.

Steady run

by petetanguay on Jun.10, 2009, under Training Runs

I feel myself beginning, just beginning, to regain some strength.  Still feel heavy, out of breath and not as strong.  But – I’m coming back.  Looking forward to seeing my running return to where it was a few months ago and then to extend my ability to run long.  Temperature is up which is challenging but also good for the overall workout as it adds another dimension to the run, another “tough” factor.  Ran by myself today, kept up a steady pace but didn’t try to tempo (that is tomorrow).

This is the same route from a run on April 8th so you can see I have some work to get back to where I was.  I’ll get there.

Hill repeats

by petetanguay on Jun.09, 2009, under Training Runs

Nice to get back out today – ran Nob Hill repeats.   First run in 9 days!  Really out of breath on the way over but that settled down as I got into the repeats.  Did a slow run back with a friend and finished with a little kick.  The weather is really heating up, its back to soaked socks and dripping wet finishes.  Starting to feel injury free which is wonderful.  Feel lucky to be able to get out and run with such a large group of great people.

Monday spin class

by petetanguay on Jun.08, 2009, under Training Runs

Had a good hour spin class.  Great to be back home this week and feeling good about logging some miles this week.  Also did a 30 minute workout in the gym, hopefully to start some focus on core body strength and some upper body strength, especially shoulders.  We’ll see how it goes.

Monday spin class

by petetanguay on Jun.01, 2009, under Training Runs

Good one hour spin class.  Worked my upper legs hard.  This is a good break from pounding my legs while running.  I’ll be traveling this week so it will be a light running week with a good long run (probably 17 or more – shooting for 2:45+ in time on the run) on Sunday.  Weather is heating up, summer is almost here.
